²⁶  An angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Rise and go south to the road that leads down from Jerusalem to the ruined city of Gaza.”  (This is the desert road that is seldom used.)  ²⁷  So Philip got ready and set out, and as he was on his way he caught sight of a Nubian.  This man was a eunuch, an important Official of the Candace, or Queen of Nubia, in charge of the Treasury.  He had been to Jerusalem on a pilgrimage to worship God in the Temple, and was returning home.
